Das Glossar enthält derzeit über 1700 Begriffe der italienischen Opernsprache und soll stetig weiter ausgebaut werden. Versehen ist jeder Begriff mit

- Übersetzung ins Deutsche und ins Englische
- Hinweisen zur Betonung und Aussprache
Es handelt sich um keine phonetische Transkription, sondern um phonologische Hinweise für
Zweifelsfälle. Vermerkt wird hier die Betonung des Wortes. Bei betonten „E“ und „O“ wird vermerkt, ob die Vokale offen oder
geschlossen sind.
é = /e/; è = /ε/; ó = /o/; ò = /ɔ/. Unbetonte Vokale sind nie offen.

been provided by Tommaso Astarita, Department of History, Georgetown
University, Washington, DC, USA.
This glossary of operatic Italian includes about 1700 entries. It will
be expanded over time with the addition of new entries. Each entry in the glossary is accompanied by:
- synonyms in modern Italian
where applicable
- translation in German and English
- guidelines for pronunciation
The pronunciation guidelines consist of phonological indications, not
phonetic transcriptions. The accent is identified for each word. If the accent
falls on an „E“ or „O“, we specify
whether the vowel should be pronounced as open or closed: é = /e/; è = /ε/; ó = /o/; ò = /ɔ/. Only an accented „E“
or „O“ can be pronounced as open.
Per una ricerca più efficiente, digitare la parola incompleta. Si troveranno così anche forme coniugate dei verbi, sostantivi e aggettivi al singolare ecc. Per parole molto brevi (p.es. “ite”) conviene invece cliccare sulla lettera iniziale e seguire l’ordine alfabetico.
For a more effective search, use incomplete words. That way, one can more easily find also conjugated verb forms, nouns or adjectives in the singular, and so on. For very short words (e.g., “ite”), it is better to click on the first letter and follow the alphabetical order.
